Description

This CD features André Previn conducting a 1975 analogue recording of Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana. It is a lively interpretation for listeners who enjoy vigorous choral singing and sharply sprung rhythms.

The performance brings out the work’s humour and rhythmic energy, with a chorus that sings with force and an orchestra that makes the antiphonal effects especially vivid. Thomas Allen’s solo contribution is a particular highlight.

Successful digital remastering enhances the choral impact while retaining the recording’s full sound. Background hiss is minimised and most apparent in the quieter vocal solos later in the work.
