In 1973, Cymande released 'Second Time Round', an album that cemented their legacy in music history. As pioneers of the Black British music scene, the band drew inspiration from their Guyanese and Jamaican heritage, blending reggae basslines, Afro-tinged Nyabinghi percussion, psychedelic rock elements, and American funk instrumentation to create their signature 'Nyah-rock' sound.

'Second Time Round' was recorded shortly after a US tour with Al Green and served as the follow-up to their self-titled debut. Their debut was the first UK soul album to chart on the Billboard charts, and 'Second Time Round' also found its way back onto the US charts.
