Mojave 3 - Ask Me Tomorrow [Vinyl]

Originally released in October 1995, Ask Me Tomorrow is a seminal album from Mojave 3, often described as sounding like an acoustic deconstruction of Slowdive’s early work. This 2026 remaster, meticulously prepared at Abbey Road, offers a fresh perspective on the band's dreamlike and ethereal soundscapes, now recontextualized with discernible lyrics and a distinct country-folk aesthetic.

The recording process, characterized by a primitive, straight-to-tape approach with significant vocal reverb, resulted in a cool, murky sound that subtly bridges the gap to Slowdive's signature style. The album draws inspiration from the sorrowful songwriting of artists like Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake, Townes Van Zant, and Fairport Convention, as well as contemporaries such as Mazzy Star, Tindersticks, and Cowboy Junkies.

The transcendent opener, “Love Songs on the Radio,” sets the album's tone with Rachel's angelic vocals suspended over slow, sleepwalking guitar and minimalist bass and drum flourishes. Reflecting on the recording, members recall the excitement of forming something entirely new, emphasizing the ease and off-the-cuff nature of the album's creation. This marked a positive new beginning, a departure from the toxic atmosphere at the end of Slowdive, allowing the band to enjoy creating something completely different.
