Mr Bongo Record Club Vol.8 [2LP Vinyl]

Dive into the eighth installment of the Mr Bongo Record Club series, an in-house curated compilation showcasing favorite tracks, hard-fought finds, and unsung gems that have inspired the team. This volume continues the cross-genre spirit of the series, featuring a rich selection of music spanning soul, boogie, disco-reggae, jazz-funk, and Latin, with a significant focus on beloved Brazilian music.

Highlights and Curation

This compilation is dedicated to the memory of Luciano Rodrigues Dos Santos. The journey begins in Bahia, Brazil, with a heartfelt epic by As Ganhadeiras de Itapua. The selection moves through contemporary dancefloor gems from Salvador, including tracks by Ubunto featuring As Ganhadeiras de Itapua, alongside raw sounds from zabumba drummer Castanheiro and the guitar-heavy track by Tyaraju & Dutra.

Soul and Exclusive Reworks

Volume 8 offers a heavy dose of soul music, featuring Canadian-gospel sounds from Trevor Dandy, a modern-soul rarity by Wil Collins & Willpower, and a soul-stepper masterpiece by Tommy McGee. A major highlight is the exclusive rework of The Sylvers' 'Wish That I Could Talk To You' by the legendary Kenny Dope, which enhances the drums while maintaining the original's essence.
