Dixon & Laing - The Devil - Diary of an Addict: Part One | Paperback

The Devil: Diary of an Addict: Part One offers an unflinching, dual-perspective look at addiction, written by an addict, Gavin Dixon, and featuring reflections from his mother. This book challenges the common perception of addiction as a moral failure, framing it instead as a disease rooted in trauma, fear, mental illness, and survival. It is specifically written for addicts and the families who support them, avoiding the clinical tone of self-help manuals or the polished narrative of celebrity memoirs.

This volume, Part One of the series, is intentionally formatted with shorter chapters and accessible layouts, designed to aid concentration for readers navigating difficult emotional states, including those affected by addiction, trauma, ADHD, anxiety, and depression.

• Presents two realities in each chapter: the addict's world and the perspective of the person hurt most—the author's mother.
• Explores the family dynamic of addiction, showing how love can evolve into enabling and how that cycle can be addressed.
• Contains honest accounts of trauma, violence, overdose, manipulation, sexual abuse, and self-destruction, shared to reveal truth rather than shock.
• Designed with accessible formatting (shorter chapters, clear spacing) to aid engagement for readers struggling with focus.
• Part One serves as an accessible introduction to the overall story.
