Description

Sean Shibe’s fifth PENTATONE album, Vesper, delivers a striking collection of contemporary guitar works by the late Harrison Birtwistle, James Dillon, and Thomas Adès. These pieces, all composed by musicians who do not play the instrument themselves, are recorded here for the first time. Shibe’s interpretations showcase the guitar’s extraordinary color, subtlety, and capacity for transformation, bringing imaginative nuance to these recent miniatures.

Key Features & Highlights
  • Features contemporary guitar works by Harrison Birtwistle, James Dillon, and Thomas Adès.
  • Explores the guitar’s expressive range: ritualistic (Birtwistle), elemental (Dillon), and allusive (Adès).
  • Sean Shibe performs on Sylvette (2021) for some Birtwistle pieces—a guitar featuring artwork by Lydia Corbett, muse to Pablo Picasso.
  • Sean Shibe is a former BBC New Generation Artist, a multi-GRAMMY nominee, and a recipient of the 2022 Leonard Bernstein Award.
  • Recorded in German language context.
